Safety Notice: Converting from Propane to Electric Appliances

If you are transitioning from propane appliances to electric, it is important to follow proper safety procedures when disconnecting your gas system. One of the critical steps is ensuring the gas line is properly secured after disconnection.

One important step is, after removing a propane appliance, the gas line must be securely capped or plugged downstream of the shut-off valve. Relying on the shut-off valve alone is not considered a safe or permanent solution. Valves can be accidentally bumped, loosened, or turned on over time, which may allow gas to flow into an open line.

It is also important that the line is capped using a proper, approved fitting designed for gas lines. Improvised or incorrect caps may not seal correctly and can create additional risk.

An uncapped or improperly capped gas line can lead to dangerous situations.

For your safety, always ensure:

  • The gas line is properly capped or plugged with an approved fitting

  • All work is completed in accordance with local codes and by a qualified professional when necessary

If you have any questions or concerns regarding capping your lines, please call us at Dan’s Propane Inc. at 308-530-0211.

Taking these extra precautions helps protect your home, your property, and everyone around you.

Be safe. Save lives.
